How to remove photo metadata before sharing
Remove embedded metadata from a new export and understand which visible details remain.
Open the toolWhat metadata can reveal
A photo may contain a capture date, camera information or GPS coordinates. Not every photo contains all these fields, and a messaging app may already have stripped some. Metadata is different from visible content: a street sign, address on a document or recognizable landmark remains part of the image after metadata removal. Decide whether the picture itself also needs cropping or redaction.
Create a separate clean copy
Open the metadata remover and select a supported photo. Follow the controls shown by the tool and download its processed output. Keep your original separately if you need the capture information for archiving. Browser processing means the tool does not need to upload your photo to process it; this does not promise anonymity on the website where you later share the file.
Verify the file you will share
Inspect the downloaded file with a metadata viewer that reads embedded fields. A file manager creation date may describe the newly downloaded file rather than an embedded capture date. Check orientation, colour and transparency as well as metadata. Share the exported copy, not the original. A platform can attach its own account, upload-time or location information afterward.
