How to resize an image without stretching it
Reduce pixel dimensions while keeping the original proportions, then check the downloaded result.
Open the toolChoose pixels or print size
Pixel dimensions describe the actual image grid. A 4000 × 3000 photo has a 4:3 aspect ratio. If you need it 1200 pixels wide without stretching, the matching height is 900 pixels. Changing only the DPI label does not create more image detail. For a print measured in centimetres, use the print-size calculator before choosing the pixel dimensions.
Resize or crop
Open the image resizer, select your image and keep the aspect-ratio lock enabled. Enter the target width and inspect the resulting height. A square destination needs a crop if the original is rectangular. Unlocking the ratio to force both dimensions into a square distorts faces, circles and logos. Keep an untouched copy of the original so you can make another version later.
Check the export
Download the result and check its pixel dimensions, orientation and sharpness at normal viewing size. A smaller pixel count often reduces bytes, but dimensions and file size are different constraints. Use image compression separately when an upload form specifies a byte limit. Enlarging a small photo can make its pixels more visible; resizing cannot recover missing detail.
